How Astro Coffee Turns Coffee Into an Event Experience

Rebecca ConnorsJuly 28, 2026

At a great event, the details guests remember are often the moments that feel personal, unexpected, and worth sharing.

For Astro Coffee, a family-owned mobile coffee company based in Golden, Colorado, coffee creates an opportunity to deliver all three.

Owned by Lisa Huron and Steven Schillaci, Astro Coffee operates a fleet of coffee carts, trailers and vans, bringing a premium café experience to corporate events, conferences, brand activations, festivals, luxury weddings, galas, sporting events and other hospitality experiences throughout Colorado and beyond.

But its approach is about more than serving drinks.

“We’re not simply serving coffee,” the Astro Coffee team explains. “We’re creating memorable guest experiences through handcrafted beverages, professional service and thoughtful presentation.”

That hospitality-first philosophy has shaped the company’s mobile business model, its approach to specialty coffee and the way it uses drink printing to make events more personal and engaging.

Bringing the café directly to the event

Steven has spent nearly 15 years in specialty coffee, including owning and operating coffee shops and training baristas. His background is rooted in traditional coffee culture: dialing in espresso, perfecting milk texture, delivering consistency and understanding that great coffee starts with great people.

Lisa focuses on the operational side of Astro Coffee, including mobile-event logistics, client experience and overall business management.

Together, they built the company around a clear vision: combining the quality and hospitality of a specialty café, with the flexibility and excitement of a mobile event experience.

The COVID pandemic accelerated that vision. While many brick-and-mortar coffee businesses were facing challenges, Lisa and Steven saw an opportunity to bring the café directly to people.

Instead of being tied to four walls, Astro Coffee developed a mobile model capable of serving guests almost anywhere – from mountain weddings and corporate campuses to conferences, festivals and large-scale brand activations.

Today, the company serves events ranging from wedding brunches with around 50 guests to festivals and conferences attended by thousands.

Many of its units are powered by solar energy and batteries, allowing Astro Coffee to operate quietly without generators. This has made the company a strong fit for outdoor events, luxury venues and premium brand activations.

Astro Coffee also intentionally sources many of its ingredients from Colorado businesses, including Servant Coffee Roasters for espresso, Longmont Dairy for milk, Daddy’s Homemade for house-made syrups and Black Box Bakery for pastries.

These partnerships help the company showcase local products while supporting its goal of keeping money circulating within its communities.

The barista always comes first

As Astro Coffee’s corporate and branding business grew, Lisa and Steven looked for new ways to elevate the experience beyond traditional coffee service.

Drink printing caught their attention because it offered personalization without compromising the craft behind the drink.

For Astro Coffee, the Ripple Maker does not replace a barista’s work.

The barista always comes first,” they say.

The team views drink printing in much the same way it views latte art. Guests still expect the espresso to be extracted properly, the milk to be steamed correctly and the drink to taste exceptional.

The print is the finishing touch on a beverage that has already been carefully prepared by a skilled barista.

The Ripple Maker doesn’t replace the craftsmanship of a barista, but rather enhances it,” they explain.

Guests still receive a handcrafted drink made by a real person, along with the conversation, connection and care that come from great barista service. The printed image adds another layer of personalization and storytelling.

For event producers, caterers and venue operators, this approach offers an important lesson: technology is most effective when it enhances the quality and hospitality already at the heart of the experience.

From static branding to active engagement

Much of the branding at events is static. Guests encounter logos on banners, signs, sponsor walls, and step-and-repeat backdrops.

Drink printing gave Astro Coffee a way to integrate branding into something guests were already excited to receive.

Lisa and Steven immediately saw possibilities beyond corporate logos. Drinks could feature custom artwork, event themes, sponsor recognition, wedding monograms or other designs connected to the occasion.

Unlike a banner or sign that attendees may walk past without noticing, a branded beverage becomes something they actively engage with,” they explain. “The brand isn’t just seen for a few seconds; it’s literally in their hands.”

Astro Coffee is seeing brands move beyond simply sponsoring coffee and toward creating more integrated experiences around it.

Depending on the event and budget, that may include custom-wrapped trailers, branded coffee carts, custom cups, branded menus, overhead signage and personalized drink prints. One company may begin with a logo printed on drinks, while another may turn an entire trailer into a mobile extension of its brand.

The larger trend, according to Astro Coffee, is a shift from passive visibility toward genuine engagement.

Brands want attendees to interact with the experience, photograph it, share it and remember it after the event ends. Coffee supports that goal because it naturally draws people in. It gives attendees a reason to stop, gather, and interact.

What happens when guests receive a printed drink?

According to Astro Coffee, the reaction is usually immediate.

Guests stop, smile, show the drink to someone nearby, and often take out their phones. Even in a busy event environment, the design creates a pause.

The team also finds that attendees often spend more time at the activation because they are asking questions, taking photographs, and interacting with the baristas.

Instead of simply picking up a drink and moving on, they engage with the experience.

Printed drinks are also naturally shareable because they are unexpected.

A logo on a banner rarely gets photographed,” the team notes. “A beautifully crafted latte featuring custom artwork often does.”

For brands, that means the experience can extend beyond the physical event. Every photograph or social media post creates another opportunity for the activation to be seen.

Coffee as a hospitality and engagement tool

Astro Coffee has worked with organizations across a wide range of industries, from financial institutions such as PNC Bank to nonprofits hosting donor and sponsor appreciation events.

The common factor is not the industry. It is the desire to create meaningful engagement and a memorable guest experience.

The company is seeing some of its fastest growth in conferences, trade shows, sponsorship activations, client appreciation events, and fundraising galas.

It is also seeing a change in how organizations think about coffee service.

Rather than viewing it only as a refreshment expense, clients are increasingly using it as a hospitality and engagement tool.

Their goals commonly include:

  • Increasing booth traffic and attendee engagement
  • Creating memorable brand interactions
  • Generating social media exposure
  • Improving the guest experience
  • Encouraging attendees to spend more time at an activation
  • Providing something useful rather than simply advertising

Coffee works well because it creates a natural reason for people to stop and talk. It can lower barriers and encourage conversation in a way that feels organic.

When branding is added through the drinks, carts, cups, menus, or trailers, the coffee experience can become a visible extension of the organization behind the event.

Helping Astro Coffee stand out

Offering branded drink printing has allowed Astro Coffee to create a more premium and differentiated experience for its clients.

It has become a valuable addition to the company’s brand-activation packages and has helped position Astro Coffee as more than a traditional coffee caterer.

Clients are increasingly looking for event experiences that feel distinctive, and custom drink printing gives the company another way to deliver that.

The experience has also generated word-of-mouth referrals.

Event attendees often ask who provided the coffee service, and Astro Coffee says many of its corporate inquiries come from people who first experienced one of its activations at another event.

For Lisa and Steven, this remains closely connected to their hospitality-first philosophy. The printed drink is another tool for surprising and delighting guests while supporting the client’s goals.

Turning wedding drinks into part of the celebration

Astro Coffee has also explored ways to use printed drinks as an interactive part of weddings rather than simply as decoration.

One idea is to print different symbols, locations or clues connected to the couple’s story.

Guests might receive drinks featuring a mountain, a concert ticket, a college mascot or a city skyline, then guess which design represents where the couple first met, became engaged or took their first trip together.

Another concept is to hide a special symbol on a small number of drinks.

Guests who receive the “golden” design could win a small surprise, receive recognition from the DJ, join the couple for a group photograph, or be entered into a giveaway.

These ideas turn coffee into a moment of discovery.

Guests compare designs, begin conversations, and learn more about the couple’s story. The printed image becomes more than a visual detail. It becomes an interactive part of the celebration.

professionals

  • Begin with quality and hospitality. Personalization is most effective when it enhances an already strong product and guest experience.
  • Create opportunities for participation. A printed drink gives guests something to hold, discuss, photograph, and share.
  • Think of coffee as more than a refreshment. It can attract people, encourage conversation, and support broader engagement goals.
  • Connect personalization to the occasion. Logos, artwork, event themes, wedding stories, and interactive clues can make the experience more relevant.
  • Differentiate through the experience. Astro Coffee has used branded drink printing to offer clients a more premium and distinctive event activation.
